Crash wins Best Picture Oscar!!

Crash just won for Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture at the 2006 Academy Awards!

I am very proud, partly because it is such an amazing film and partly because Paul Haggis is a fellow Canadian. :-) The film is a thoughtful exploration of today's race issues and conflicts, but, most of all, it is a glimpse into the human soul and condition. It shows that black or white, yellow or blue, we are all the same on the inside. It promotes tolerance and respect, and does so in a poignant and creative way.

On that note, I think that 2005 has been a fantastic year for progressive filmmaking. From Crash to Brokeback Mountain to North Country, many films have brought important topics to audiences' attention. I hope this trend continues and that we all learn from these characters and their situations. Prejudice should not have a place in the world.
