Crime 101 — February 13, 2026 — directed by Bart Layton — starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, Corey Hawkins, Monica Barbaro

                

A bit of The Thomas Crown Affair with some Heat thrown in, all with Don Winslow's sharp characterization weaving through and based on Winslow's novella -- this would be the accurate description for the new heist movie directed by Bart Layton. The story seems to be focused on the value of choices, doing the right versus the wrong thing and possible redemption, as much as it is focused on acts of crime. Hemsworth and Ruffalo reunite on opposite sides of the law after their Marvel success, while Berry seems to enjoy a different kind of role as a morally compromised insurance broker. I do hope that the story sticks to deeper examinations of aforementioned themes and that it does not merely scratch the surface, since it seems like a pretty unique heist movie. A stellar supporting cast includes Barry Keoghan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Monica Barbaro, Nick Nolte and Tate Donovan. I am glad that more of Winslow's fantastic writing is being adapted for the screen. Personal recommendation -- if you have not already, check out the novel Savages and its 2012 adaptation.
