Following the bizarrely beautiful horror of last year's Men, filmmaker Alex Garland turns his attention to speculative fiction. A timely topic if ever there was one, this movie follows various characters during a new American civil war, among them a journalist trying to get to the Capitol where journalists are targets and a family that takes a wrong turn. More frightening than any horror entry, the trailer is already difficult to watch in the context of current upheavals in American politics and social issues. Kirsten Dunst is always great and always choosing challenging projects, the talented Cailee Spaeny is currently making a splash with Priscilla and Jesse Plemons is able to turn the creep factor up in an instant. This is going to be a gloomy, uncomfortable movie that is sorely needed in this moment. A divided country, air strikes, displacements, militias with agendas and a merciless president... let us hope that they remain in the realm of imagination.
