What a pleasant Halloween surprise. Directed and co-written by Kevin Williamson, who changed the world of horror with the 1996 original, the seventh movie in the beloved franchise comes to us with a bang. Neve Campbell is back as Sidney Prescott, who is now a mother to a teenager and who has to grapple with her frightening past to defend her family from a new Ghostface. The movie looks clever, suspenseful and full of surprises; Matthew Lillard, David Arquette and Scott Foley are apparently all returning, even though *SPOILER* their characters are deceased. I am glad to see Williamson behind the camera, with complete creative control over this sequel. Also, since the original makes numerous references to Halloween, did anyone else get Laurie/Annie/Lynda vibes from the shot of Sidney's daughter meeting her two friends? It looks like a nice homage to a slasher that has influenced the entire Scream franchise. Based on the trailer and the cast, I cannot wait for the return of Ghostface and another trip to Woodsboro.
