Trailerblazing -- Me Before You

Me Before You -- June 3, 2016 -- directed by Thea Sharrock -- starring Emilia Clarke, Sam Claflin, Jenna Coleman, Charles Dance, Janet McTeer

The time is ripe for an engaging cinematic love story. A few have been released in recent years, but those that are meaningful and not simply schmaltzy are few and far between. The underrated Age of Adaline comes to mind, as does The Fault in Our Stars, based on the parts that I have seen (yes, I am that one person that has yet to watch it). Enter the adaptation of Jojo Moyes' bestseller "Me Before You", the trailer for which has sent social media into overdrive. The tale of an aimless young woman who falls for a quadriplegic she is caring for seems like a tearjerker for the ages. There is infatuation; there are twists; there is drama that actually says something about the zest for life and the power of love. The cast is pretty incredible. With her charm and charisma, Clarke is reminiscent of Hollywood's golden age stars. Of course, she and Dance have notably played members of feuding noble houses on "Game of Thrones". Claflin is forging quite a career with roles in multiple genres and Coleman is coming off her "Doctor Who" companion stint. It will be interesting to see if this romance can break through against the 2016 summer blockbusters, like The Fault in Our Stars did two years ago, but I do suspect that it will be a major success.
