Trailerblazing -- Night Swim

Night Swim - January 5, 2024 - directed by Bryce McGuire - starring Kerry Condon, Wyatt Russell, Nancy Lenehan, Ben Sinclair

Well, here is a new idea -- a haunted swimming pool. Based on the director's 2014 short, the Bryce McGuire movie offers an intriguing and rarely seen concept. The closest we ever came to something like it, as far as I can tell, is with a demon making mischief in the Paranormal Activity 2 pool. Just like that movie, Poltergeist, The Darkness and some others, Night Swim tells a story of an ordinary and relatable family dealing with supernatural occurrences. The use of light in the cinematography already sells it -- just what are the shadows underneath the surface? What lies underneath the surface, anyway? -- and the trailer does a great job preserving the mystery. Russell is adding to his eclectic filmography, which includes an episode of "Black Mirror" and works such as Ingrid Goes West and Overlord, while Condon is fresh off her Academy Award nomination for The Banshees of Inisherin. This Halloween, we are in anticipation of a January dive into fright.
