Trailerblazing -- NAILS

Nails -- November 17, 2017 -- directed by Dennis Bartok -- starring Shauna Macdonald, Ross Noble, Leah McNamara, Steve Wall, Dennis Bartok

Well... that was not creepy at all. NOT. This supernatural horror taps into the universal fear of hospitals and adds a bit of ghostly activity for the flavoring. The story of a paralyzed car crash survivor who becomes convinced that an entity is out to get her looks genuinely unsettling. It is bleak and grimy and that demon/ghost/whatnot seems extremely angry and dangerous. Hospitals make for some of the most effective horror locations; just ask The Omen and It Follows. They are also places that no one wants to visit voluntarily, so what happens when you are stuck in one? I am not familiar with most of the cast, but Macdonald has proven with her haunting turn in The Descent that she is a formidable genre presence. She also appears to have gone through quite the wringer for this role -- again! -- so kudos to the actor. The film looks like one of those horror gems that one discovers by happenstance and I am hoping that it will get noticed by the genre fans and audiences in general.
